Advice from the admission team at SLU

  1. Identify Your Top Colleges

Make a list of what is important to you and what you want to experience in college. Location is a great place to start; consider how far from home where the campus is located. Location matters when it comes to things to do for fun, but also the opportunities for internships.

  2. Schedule a Campus Visit

Visit the campuses of all the schools you are considering. You can’t get a good read on a college’s personality without seeing the campus in real life.

  3. Talk to Current College Students

Seek out current students to talk to, whether in person, by email or on the phone. They are the ones living the experience right now, and they give a very true picture of what you can expect.

  7. Know the University’s Application Process

Every university is different, so check each school’s website for deadlines, test scores and required documents. Common requirements will be English proficiency scores, academic transcripts, essays, and recommendation letters.

  8. Get to Know Application Pathways

It’s important to understand the differences in application plans. Early Decision I and II are binding, meaning you commit to attend if accepted, while Early Action is non-binding and gives you an early response. Regular Decision gives you more time, but results come later.

  9. Understand the I-20 and Visa Process Early

Once you're admitted, the next big step is your student visa. Make sure you understand the process, have your documents ready, and can clearly explain why you want to study in the U.S, why you want to study the major you chose and why the university you chose is the best fit for you!
